Reps Committee Commends Military, Approves ₦1.504 Trillion 2026 Budget

The House of Representatives Committee on Army Affairs has commended the Nigerian Army for its sustained efforts in tackling insurgency, armed banditry, and other security challenges across the country.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Aminu Balele Kurfi, representing Dutsin-Ma/Kurfi Federal Constituency, lauded the troops for their resilience and sacrifices in safeguarding national security. He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to strengthening the country’s security architecture and improving the welfare of military personnel.

“I remain dedicated to reinforcing our nation’s security and ensuring better welfare for our soldiers. It is always a privilege to contribute meaningfully to discussions that promote security and stability in Nigeria,” he said.

Meanwhile, the committee approved a budget of ₦1.504 trillion for the Nigerian Army for the 2026 fiscal year. The approval followed a joint session with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.

While expressing satisfaction with the Army’s budget presentation, lawmakers raised concerns over delays in the release of funds, noting that such setbacks have historically slowed down operational efficiency.

The approved allocation, part of the 2026 Federal Government budget, will cover personnel costs, operations, training, and infrastructure, underscoring the government’s continued prioritization of national defense and security.
